As the powers shifted in the American League during the 1960s, championship runs were made by four different clubs in as many seasons immediately following the end of the Yankees’ string of five successive league titles and 14 World Series appearances in 16 years. Among those Junior Circuit upstarts were the Detroit Tigers, who are visually represented on these 1964 and 1965 team photo pennants. Each felt banner features orange-on-black applique designs (at 100%), a curved calendar year insert (with tab to facilitate display) and a color team photo adhered to the reverse to display in a window. Each photo has printed identifiers on the reverse. With spines and original tassels intact, the items present beautifully and are both listed as “Somewhat Rare” in Mike Egner’s 2013 Vintage Pennant Price Guide II.
