We’ve all read about it and have seen the timeless images of the final pitch and subsequent celebration on the mound. But how many of us were actually there for Don Larsen’s perfect game in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series? Here’s a program issued at Yankee Stadium that day and scored by an on-site witness. The 48-page guide features photos and text detailing yet another Brooklyn-Bronx battle. The scoring grids have been marked in blue ballpoint to document Larsen’s mound gem and Mantle’s home run in support of his teammate. The fan that scored this program was likely a late arrival, as the grids are scored from the fourth through eighth innings. Covers and all pages remain intact, though there is moisture-induced wrinkling and discoloration on a few of the back pages and spine.
