Green Bay Packers legend Paul Hornung made his Sports Illustrated cover debut with this 10/29/56 issue. A driving force behind the Packers great period of success in the 1960s, the heroic halfback is seen here as a smiling member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college football team in a season that saw him win the Heisman Trophy. This award worthy example is graded (9.4) by CGC, to earn the top spot on the certification service’s Census list and is also cited as the 75th hardest issue to find in SI’s sixty-four year run. Label notes include “v5, #18; Off-White to White Pages; First Hornung cover”.
