1939 was a big year for the sport of baseball and the city of New York. While the national pastime was celebrating its Centennial Anniversary, the World’s Fair was setting up camp in Flushing Meadows. Red Sox prize rookie Ted Williams made his MLB debut on 4/20 at Yankee Stadium and with “Joltin’ Joe” DiMaggio in the driver’s seat, the Yankees cruised to their fourth consecutive World Series championship by sweeping the Reds.
