To our knowledge, there's never been talk of Yaz corking. And by this period in his 23-season career, having already surpassed the 3,000-hit and 400-HR plateaus, he had little left to prove. Indeed, Yastrzemski had played in 15 straight All-Star games and was a lifetime .369 hitter (with 4 HRs) in the postseason. Nevertheless, at 40 years old, perhaps he was looking for a little edge? Here's how PSA/DNA describes the discovery: "While examining the top of the barrel it is clear it has been altered. It appears the barrel has been drilled then 'plugged' which generally indicates a corking of the barrel." Aside from that anomaly, it's your classic Yaz gamer—a 36", 34.1-oz. ash bat showing outstanding use with a handle crack, many ball marks, green bat-rack streaks, and light pine tar. Black-marker notations of "8" and "GAME" appear on the knob. PSA/DNA's letter adds, "The handle was taped in a wide spiral pattern to enhance the grip but the tape has been removed." Graded GU 9. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
