Born into a baseball world and raised with “The Orioles Way” as an everyday tutorial, Cal Ripken, Jr. embraced his destiny to a life on the diamond, in the clubhouse and eventually, to mentor aspiring youths. Maryland’s favorite son and the prototype for blue-collar Baltimore, Ripken broke in with a flourish, garnering Rookie of the Year plaudits in 1982 and following that with an MVP campaign for the 1983 World Champion Orioles. This bat was brandished and autographed by the Memorial Stadium legend as he put an indelible mark on the baseball landscape and undertook a consecutive games endeavor that extended for 17 seasons. The Louisville Slugger “P72” (35”, 32.1-oz) white ash signature model two-toned lumber was turned during the 1983-1984 labeling period and features a brown barrel and tan handle. Graded GU-7 by PSA/DNA, the uncracked weapon shows light use with ball, cleat and stitch impressions about the barrel. Just below the barrel stampings, Ripken has signed in silver-colored pen (“8” strength) and inscribed “AL MVP-1983.” Of note are Getty Images linking this style of bat (perhaps this very bat) to the 1983 season. Among them are #166956460 (shows Ripken using this model in the 1983 World Series) and #81345802 (shows Ripken using this model at the September 16, 1983 game vs. Milwaukee). Accompanying are full photo LOAs from PSA/DNA (for bat use) and JSA (for autograph).
